Rush Limbaugh Says He Would Leave The U.S. Over Health Care

Rush Limbaugh says he’ll leave the United States for medical treatment if the health care reform passes and his fears about the program come to fruition.

Limbaugh was discussing the issue on his radio show when he made the statement, which has garnered much controversy.

When a caller asked Limbaugh where the radio host would go for treatment, Limbaugh said he would leave country and go to Costa Rica.

Costa Rico has universal health care.

Limbaugh addresses the controversy on his website.

Here's what a transcript of Limbaugh reads:

"So a guy calls up and says, "If all this happens, what are you going to do?" And I said, "Well, if doctors are not permitted to opt out of the government insurance pool and so forth, Medicare, Medicaid, whatever it is, and if they're not allowed to establish a private practice with private sector patients paying their own way, then I'll go to Costa Rica."

Well, that has been turned into I'm going to leave the country for Costa Rica and move there if Obamacare passes. I've had all kinds of reporters: "Are you serious? Do you really mean this?" So I've had to patiently explain today to people who do not bother to stay informed on this stuff what the genesis and the primary context of my comment was. I said, "Look, there are insurance companies who don't want to be put out of business." We've talked to them on the program. I've talked to them privately. They are establishing health care clinics with quality doctors in places like Costa Rica. They're going to continue to sell policies to people who have the ability to fly down there and get treatment. If I have to get thrown into this massive government health care insurance business and end up going to the driver's license office every day when I need to go to the doctor, yeah, I'll go to Costa Rica for treatment, not move there. So they're just in a tizzy out there, between Costa Rica and Eric Massa. So -- (laughing) -- it's going to be a fun day. Heck, it already is a fun day."

I don't think that he is serious about that. However If he is taking that seriously, then I can't understand Rush Limbaugh at all. How could he and his co - workers state that Obama's reform is something wrong? Don't they see that the situation around our health care and insurance is very poor for many years now. These reforms have to be done much earlier, maybe in 2005-2006. However nobody have done that. Only Obama is brave enough to make these reforms. Just have a look at the quality of health care now. It is really poor. Moreover uninsured and unemployed people just can't get it at all. One doctor have told my friend to use Zyban every single day. However she can't do that because she and he husband are unemployed at the moment. I mean the prices are really high on medications nowadays. I hope that Rush Limbaugh will change his position and understand the meaning of this historical reform.

Where? In this US system? Probably a lot better than some corporation who operates for profit (you know, the kind that cut losses).

Well Derek, the compassion showed you grandparents will no longer be, it is now replaced by government decisions for you.

Compassion is caring for others. You just want those who can't afford healthcare to be denied it, and let this system to continue to way it is going. Lets continue to have 8/1000 infantile deaths, an ave. life expectancy less than 70 yrs - and if you look up those stats that ranks the US in the top 40ish...(great system huh?) Oh yeah, the compassion you show, much like you've posted, is with your sheep. I recommend you start dating your own species. The people that I lived around in Canada loved their system. They make a doctor's app. and get in the next day. Here, we wait a week or two. Actually my grandparents (85 87) have been in and out of the hospital 6 times over the last two years. Knee replacements, biopsys, head injury treatment, stents, bowel obstruction, bowel death. All this and they are almost into their 90s! So, I guess they will be denied, what, when they are 95 or so? How old is too old to treat? I'd recommend doing some more research than listening to Beck OSOC.

So, Derek, you are going to tell a guy with a million mile of frequent travel...to travel? So it wasn't perfect? That is your final answer?....hmmm, not what the people there told me, thats why they come to the US, to stay alive, but no more...now they can stay in their own country to be told they are to old for treatment...you guys, your progressives, think this is OK. What happened to compassion?

Actually I lived in Canada for a while, their healthcare system wasn't perfect, but still really good. But it is funny how NC taxes plus private health insurance combined take more from my salary than taxes (including 'socialized' healthcare) in Canada did. So what I recommend to you OSOC, is you should actually travel, live in a country with 'socialized' medicine and then come back and tell us what it is like. Rush isn't a great american, great americans do not lie. His audience loves him because they like others to think for them, much like yourself OSOC. You do a lot of telling on what people should do, but you actually never really experienced the real world. So until you travel and lived abroad as often as I have, I really don't think you have much of an opinion as I do. That being said, I encourage all people to educate themselves on these issues and not base their opinions on what someone else tells them, ie: OSOC and his mentors at Fox news..

Actually, Derek, the problem is with progressives....like you. You and Jeanne can get one way tickets to Costa Rica....then you can distribute you wealth and help them there!!!! Limbaugh will pay for it. This way, you can experience socialized medicine and come to visit American to report. Isn't that Rush, just great? You have to love a man who stands behind the truth over the media lies...what a great American!!!!!!

Any word if Rush has purchased his one-way ticket to Costa Rica? (and does he know they have socialized medicine there too?)
