Black History Month Reports

WITN's Cassandra Bell brought us our first of several "Black History" reports this month at 6:00 pm Wednesday.

The first stop was the Freeman Round House in Wilson. The house is situated at the junction of Nash and Hines streets as you enter the city. The home was built in 1946 as a means of housing for G.I.'s returning from war. The significant thing about the house is not just the fact that it's round, but the materials Freeman used to build it used a technique he perfected at Tuskegee Institute, using not just mortar and stone, but bottles, tree sapling and even string.

There are other Freeman homes throughout the city, but the round house is now a museum that spotlights Freeman's unique contribution to home building and many familiar faces making a little history of their own.

Cassandra also spotlighted he city art museum and one of its many galleries where several photos by Burk Uzzle are on display. His work features what happened following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.

The newly released photos will be on display through Saturday. They will then become property of the Smithsonian.

ALPHA...I don't matter to me who has a care about what I think but it is obvious to me that you do or I would't keep getting a response. And you are correct black history isn't going anywhere.... other than the shortest month of the year!!!!!

I dont get it why is there only one day (July 4th) that we celebrate our indnependance? why is there only one day we celebrate the Veterans? I f it wasnt for those who have gone before us and gave their lives we wouldnt be here right now. We have had many brave Americans give their lives for our freedom but we only recognize the for one day a year. And you waqnt to know what is wrong with America.

mr rite... Really, do you honestly think any black person cares what you think? LOL ..I'm through trying to explain something to you that is obviously over your head. ..Black History Month isn't going anywhere!!! ..Good luck with white history month. Twenty one more days for you to whine. ...Should have left us in Africa... LMAO... I love America... thanks!

ALPHA female You would be more help to me if you would tell me something I don't know. I am well aware of you being powerless and for my sob story...well thats how the blacks get what they want so I thought I would give it a try. The crowd that is currently running congress is useless to me so I won't waste my time or effort to visit them. I hate to rush time by, but I to am also on the countdown to get February over.

mr rite... First, there was only one contact! ..And stop trying to create a sob story for yourself. ..Get a grip. ...As for those other History months.. if they don't make a big deal out of their heritage.. whose fault is that? It's theirs if they do nothing! ..As far as a white History month... that's all I learn in grade school. ...But let me ask you something since it's bothering you so much... Why, instead of crying here, don't you get your butts off those computers chairs and head up to Congress and ask them why don't you have a white history month. I have NO power! Twenty Two more days of Black History Month to go! ..."Freedom is never given; it is won." -A. Philip Randolph

To ALPHA female Feb 5, @9:43 I didn't feel like checking out all of your www. contacts but you didn't mention which month was white history month and why the ones you did mention don't get publicity like black history month.

Every year a few of you "lost souls" wander on this thread and cry about why there aren't other history months. ...Here is a tip... research to make sure before you post an ignorant statement you are in fact correct! ...Being half Native American... I'll start there.. (Native American Heritage Month - NOV) (Hispanic Heritage Month - SEPT)(Irish History Month - March) (Asian/Pacific Heritage Month - May) etc... http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/releases/archives/facts_for_features_special_editions/014487.html ....WOW, who knew? Certainly not you guys! See, because you guys were so negative about Black History Month.. you ended up learning something about YOUR OWN PEOPLE you didn't know.. LOL ..That's what it's all about. You are welcome! Happy Black History Month :)

I would like someone of "color" reading this post to explain why having Black History month is more important and needed and why no other month is recognize for any other race or nationality. Can this honestly be concidered fair.
