Why Your Boss Doesn't Like Facebook

Your boss might not care so much that you're on Facebook at work these days. What they might care about is Facebook spreading malware onto work computers or getting too much information.

Security firm Sophos polled about 500 firms and found out 60 percent of them felt Facebook was the biggest threat to their security. Experts say Facebook is a security risk because of several reasons. Malware can be spread on the site. Employees who aren't web-savvy may open that malware. Also, workers can put a company at risk by giving up too much information about the business.

Why is the attack on State and Gov't employees? Just because the State worker that you know is lazy does not mean that all of them are. As a state worker I make sure the business of the state is attended to, BUT at the same time I have a family and friends that need attention and issues that need to be addressed; a BIG portion of my LIFE is spent working for this State, for low pay and little respect - as is evident by the comments here. Many of those that do not do social networking are probably using company time on personal phone calls or emails (those nice little forwards that you love). So look at your own situation before you judge; everyone does something that may be considered questionable.

Why don'y you all stop complaining about state workers. Why don't you work for the state and see how it feels to make a 3rd of the salary the public does, never get any raises, no bonuses....

If you're at your job,you should be WORKING...not wasting your employer's time goofing around on the computer. FB and MySpace are pointless anyhow. What compels people to publish personal info on these sites is beyond me.

Notice most of the state employees commented before the real working public got home and had a chance to respond. Enough said! Point proven!

I believe many companies still do not understand social media, therefore, they are reluctant to accept it in the workplace. The social media revolution is rapidly transforming the marketing landscape. Their company cannot afford to ignore the proliferation of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other user generated content websites. Millions of their fans, loyal customers and potential clients interact with social media on a daily basis. Social media is the perfect medium for building their brand, advertising, learning and innovating from their customers’ perspectives, and engaging their existing and potential clients.... See More Social media is here to stay. It is in the best interest of businesses to embrace it and learn how to use it to engage their customers. Facebook is a social network for people to keep in touch with friends and family. I agree about workers not being aloud to go on it at work. I am a state worker myself. I enjoy facebook, but only when I am home.

When you are at work you are paid to work. If you have a good work ethic you will get the job done and only use the computer if you have true down time. At lunch should not be a problem. btw...I am a State employee with a strong work ethic and I am always nice to the "public" even if they do not return the courtesy.

Cut it out all together it's a WASTE of time at work and home. Creating a very lazy bunch of people. Most, I said most....most state employees once they get in they know they got it made. They don't work that hard. Gimme a break. However they are scared someone will come along and take them out of their comfort zones. I can tell by the tone of some here. LOL

We've had it blocked for a while now. Thank goodness. It was blocked for virus and securtiy reasons. It was also beginning to become a problem. Younger workers are so into it that they were almost addicted to it. Come in to work-check FB. Break time-check FB. Lunch time-check FB. Eventually it began to spill over into 'work' time and every time they had to get on a computer they had to check their FB and productivity began to fall way off. Now that it's blocked things are better but they all now think they have to have Blackberry devices. They always seem to find a way around the system. Eventually cell phones will be banned completely at work as well because people are not smart enough to know when to and when not to use them. Common sense is no longer common. Too bad they can't teach that in school.
