"Zumba" Gaining In Popularity In The East

Tired of your same workout day in and day out? Well, there's an exercise that's getting people pumped up again. It's called "Zumba" and classes have just started to pop up in eastern Carolina.

Zumba is Latin music and Latin rhythms combined with dance movement.

Mom of two---Annissa Cavaliere says she's already a fan of Zumba--- that's because it makes her feel young again. "Reminds me of 20 years ago when I was on the dance floor dancing, but yet you're also working out."

For 45 minutes participants forget about everything else going on in their lives---kick up their heels, have a great time, and burn a couple hundred calories while doing it.

The class is offered twice a week, Monday and Thursdays at the Greenville Civic Ballet---everyone is welcome to join.

Fact: Zumba has been around for a long time but recently a GCB instructor took the training courses and went to all the workshops to be able to teach it. this doesnt mean we get trends later. its not up to you when someone adds another dance class to their studio. and sure you can run suicides but can you dance for two hours on a piece of wood while being graceful, or remember a dance combination while having fun and burning callories at the same time? i think not. and if you think you can boys dance free this spring so why dont you come try it with us?

Actually Dave, it's not about whether you eat fast food but how much, & how often. A few indiscretions won't put you in the ground faster than a relaxed, moderated life. As to BBQ, you must be getting yours at the wrong place if you think it's that unhealthy. I'm pretty health-conscious & what I had when I was there was good, lean meat. BBQ isn't deep-fried food. BoJangles sure, I wouldn't eat that every day, but it's better than some of the garbage around my area & I wouldn't trip about having it once in a while. It's also about picking & choosing your menu items. You always have better & worse choices to make when you hit the counter. Realize this however; Proper diet is less useful w/out activity too. Balance means both. I still wouldn't discourage anyone from doing just one thing if that's all they are presently motivated for. I'd like my boyfriend to stop smoking but he won't until he's ready. If he exercises or eats better, it compensates some & I encourage that. Do what u can.

I'd just like to say that I think these women look great and seem to be having a lot of fun. To be honest they all looked like they were already in pretty good shape, which just goes to show exercise is a key facotr in keeping fit. This has nothing to do with eating barbicue or BoJangles, this story was just to introduce Eastern Carolina to a different and interesting exercise. How about trying it before you knock it.

I am not being negative but merely TRUTHFUL! People in Eastern NC can't stop eating barbecue, BoJangles, and the many other unhealthy food joints that reign popular around here. Getting in shape is a commitment that requires proper diet and sleep along with exercise.

Zumba has been around for a long time. That just goes to show how slow Eastern NC is when it comes to the latest trends.

Actually, this isn't anything new. Its been around for a while but just wasn't made well known. I have the workout DVD's and they are pretty good.

Sometimes you need a stress reliever when you deal with insensitive people all day and Zumba is a great workout. As for those making the negative comments...Let's remember that most people do that in order to make themselves feel better. Perhaps if they tried something upbeat and fun like Zumba and socialized once in a while, they might find that they are not so miserable sitting at home all alone with their thoughts. Isn't ENC great?

You know WITN you always pull critical remarks from being posted on your site. Well apparently what is being posted here isn't critical enough for you. Some of these posts are down right hateful. They sure aren't encouraging anyone who does want to put the effort into a better lifestyle. Oh and by the way, I'm not a housewife sitting at home.
