In The War Of Dogs Vs. Cats, Clear Winner: Dogs

An Associated Press-Petside.com poll shows that Americans like dogs better than cats. And it wasn't even close. Across the country, 1,967 adults were questioned and 74 percent said they preferred dogs a lot while 41 percent said they liked cats a lot.

When it comes to which pet was disliked the most, cats won handily. Fifteen percent said they disliked cats a lot while only 2 percent said they disliked dogs a lot.

The poll was conducted Oct. 1 to Oct. 5 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points.

Those most likely to dislike cats were blacks, Hispanics and married men. Men were a bit more likely than women to say they disliked cats.

My God WITN... how you will coddle these big grown people. Why did you block my post? I only say what other people think... Just because you don't post it, doesn't change that fact!

I disagree with just about any poll. They didn't ask me. Did they ask any of you? So who do these polls ask? Is it a closed panel? If you've never been polled, how can you accept that the polls represent you and your peers? That said, this is kind of a no-brainer. Anybody can get affection from just about any dog, but with cats, you really have to earn it. With the exception of kittens and very few adult cats, most cats won't give you the time of day, even if you have a treat for them. There really is no comparison, they really are two completely different animals which serve two different purposes. Dogs are man's best friend for a reason, but they won't keep the mice away.

To Anon who said that cats only think of themselves... Personally, I think dog vs. cat is a silly debate (as one said, apples-oranges), but your comment tells me that you don't have the right personality yourSELF to have a cat. Cats, like any other animal, respond well to being treated well. Their behavior also varies by individual personality, as well as breed (the same as dogs, fish, ferrets, birds & anything else), and you have to be educated and intelligent enough to pick one that suits you well - that is the fact for ANY pet. I've heard people argue for yrs that cats don't come when called, don't communicate with you, aren't loyal, etc etc etc, and none of that has been true for any cat I've had. Like a child, they will step up to expectations and praise both. Own one and despise it, and it will despise you right back. So if you dislike cats in any way, PLEASE do not have one. Get something you can love.

Darren, just a little insight to my golden, she is the test dog for Roche Pharmaceuticals used for Myastheni Gravis for humans, to test a new drug treatment. She is the miracle for the MG society. Solely responsible for many people leaving wheel chairs for some, for the first time in their lives. The only survivor of 10 dogs with MG. So, you see my devotion, you can understand my devotion to a cause. This would not have been possible without "her" help to let me know when she had problems. Smartest dog I have ever known. Like all dogs, it will be hard to say goodbye one day, but, they live for the moment, enjoy the fun! She resides in Beaufort Co, why, cause thats where the tennis balls are......OSOC

I'll agree with you Obama Snake Oil. One of our dogs is a Golden we have had for 6 years. At the same time, we also got a Doberman the same age at that same time. They both are protective loving fun and wild.

Me, my wife, and my 2 sons have two dogs and a cat and both those dogs are just as protective of our cat as they are with us and get along great and love to play. We would not trade them for any other animal. They keep each of us company if one of us is home alone as well. Pets are something special.
