ABC board members in a coastal North Carolina county are stepping down following a flap over the salaries of the board's father-and-son administrative leaders.
Multiple media outlets reported all three members of the New Hanover County ABC board sent resignation letters Monday to the county commissioners.
The resignations of Chairman Charles Wells, Richard Hanson and Stephen Culbreth were announced on the same day the commissioners scheduled a public hearing with Alcoholic Beverage Control board members. The ABC members were expected to take questions about the pay of administrator Billy Williams and his son, assistant administrator Bradley Williams. The hearing was canceled.
Billy Williams earns $232,000 annually, while Bradley Williams gets a salary of $115,500.
The letter said there were "misunderstandings emerging" within the public about their performance as board members.
