An investigation into racial intimidation at one community college has been closed and the students involved have returned to class.
According to Kinston Public Safety, an incident that involved a stuffed monkey hanging from a car antenna at Lenoir Community College Tuesday, was just a prank, not a hate crime.
The two students who were asked to leave the L.C.C. indefinitely were allowed back to class on Thursday.
Officer say the students had no malicious intent and the incident was just a misunderstanding.
A case of alleged racial intimidation is under investigation at one local community college.
Witnesses say close to fifteen people gathered in the parking lot of Lenoir Community College Tuesday when they say two white students hung a stuffed animal monkey on the antenna of a truck.
A student reported the incident to administrators claiming it was a racist act. Some who saw the incident unfold didn't think that was the cause. The thought it was meant to poke fun at the owner of the truck for being overweight.
LCC administrators say they're turning this case over to Kinston Public Safety for further investigation.
The two students involved have been suspended.
