Store Robbery Foiled By Shotgun Toting Clerk

A would-be armed robber apparently had second thoughts when an employee pulled out his shotgun Monday night.

It happened at the Salem & Sons Convenience Store on Sunset Avenue in Rocky Mount around 10:20 p.m.

Police say employees were inside cleaning up, and saw a customer at the front door. They let the man inside, but at the same time another man came in as well and showed a black handgun in the direction of an employee. That employee immediately got his shotgun, racked the slide, and pointed it at the would-be robber.

The robber then turned around and slowly left the store. Nothing was taken in the robbery attempt.

Rocky Mount police say there were two other successful robberies Monday night.

The first, around 6:20 p.m. at the Family Dollar on Harbour West Drive. There a man showed a black handgun and demanded money out of the cash register. Then at 10:00 p.m. at the Kangaroo Mart on North Wesleyan Boulevard a customer first asked for change. When the clerk refused, the man told her it was a robbery. Police say no weapon was shown in that robbery.

Actually, I feel that if someone attempts to rob me, I have the right to use deadly force even if the criminal has no weapon. If I don't have a weapon, I more than likely will be beaten by the criminal and he accomplises. If you don't want to get killed, leave other people alone. You have no right to take other peoples stuff.

The only thing bad about this is he didnt shoot this idiot. You can look out now this guy is going to show up with a loaded weapon and aint going to wait for some clerk to pull out a shot gun.You people watch to many movies. At least it worked this time.Next time I doubt it.Once a man has a bead on you he has the upper hand.It dont take but a mila second for the trigger sear to release and the fireing pin to hit the bullet or shell and then whatever it is pointed at.That said though I'm glad it turn out the way it did.

I wondered how long it would take for the decent folks to get their fill of this kind of thing.

Score another victory for the 2nd amendment ! Nothing grabs a robber's attention like the racking of a pump-action [except maybe for actually being shot with same].....

Thumbs up to the store clerk, however I am glad you didn't shoot him . Not that he doesn't deserve it, but you probably don't deserve everything you'd have to go through after getting rid of the trash. Once again, good job.

Since the bandit had a gun, the clerk would have been justified in pulling the trigger. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate. Congrats to the clerk for standing his ground.
