DEPUTIES: Dog Beaten With Baseball Bat, Burned On Trash Pile

Deputies say a dog was killed with a baseball bat, and then burned on a trash pile.

Now two people are under arrest for animal cruelty.

Onslow County deputies have charged Michael Gibson and Jessica Magdalenski, both of Mitchell Lane in Maysville, with cruelty to animals and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Deputies say in mid-October Onslow County Animal Control received a call about possible animal abuse. Officers found the burned body and blood spatters on the outside of the house and called in deputies for assistance.

The couple told authorities that the dog tried to attack the woman and her young child, and was aggressive toward other animals in the house. Gibson told deputies that they used a baseball bat because no one had a gun.

Both people posted bonds of $5,000 and released from jail.

I don't care about their reason for beating the dog to death. It was malicious and far beyond defending anyone. The only reason they tried to burn the dog was to clean up the evidence of their wrongdoing. They knew they went overboard with killing the dog. Unfortunately, they'll get off scott free. Most animal abusers do.

John in washington, ask the N.C legislature about conspiracy to commit a felony.they did it in 2004 with an ex post facto law to make criminals out of a good portion of law abiding people.they were never tried for it either.

They needed to call for animal control regardless of the situation, the dog was outside, they could have went into the house, and avoided what they did to this animal, attack or no attack. There is nothing,in my opinion that would justify beating the animal with an object till death, and then burning it.Wrong!!

What is wrong with those of you who say these people should be locked up or beaten? The article says they did what they did because the dog was attacking a woman and child. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot about the burning, but if all they had was a bat, that's probably the best they could have done. It is natural human instinct to protect the young if you're an adult, and for men to protect women. (Not being sexist, it's just how we're wired - a woman can have all the ability and talent in the world, and there's still going to be a man to offer his help. Especially fathers and brothers.) Maybe they crossed the line, I can see that, but let a dog attack your children, I'd like to know how an 'animal lover' handles that.

If the dog attacked an innocent child, you would be screaming that they did nothing to stop the dog ( I guees it would have been different if it had been a pitbull or rott). The dog showed agressivness toward anothe human being and they took care of it, lets let the dog chew the toes off of a child before we decide to do anything about it. if this dog attacked yuor child, you would want revenge and answers, well, they took responsibility for the dog and had it taken care of. maybe not the best way but it's better to happen to a dog than a human.

we dont know the whole story yet pending investigation and these two may turn out to be serial killer devil worshippers... but maybe they were just doing away with an aggressive dog. And the burning of the carcass- well we cremate humans, right?. I hit a deer recently and for lack of a better way to dispose of it ( the meat was ruined by the time I could salvage it) I burned it in my back field. What of it? My vet euthanized my poor old cancer ridden dog last year then cremated him. When my old hens stopped laying eggs I killed them. Maybe these two did nothing wrong? At least let the po po investigate more into this to see what went down. And any of you who eat meat- like me, you kill animals too. Heck I have family from Phillipines where they eat dogs.

How are all of you "Do Gooders" fitting on that pedestal? ...If a dog, even my own, tries to attack me or my children and a gun isn't at hand.... it will meet the same fate. LOL..some said dogs are a gift from God. So I guess chickens are a gift from Tyson? Speaking of chicken... how many of you have had some chicken embryos and pork flesh for breakfast. I bet you flushed it down with a big hot cup of coffee lightened with calf's nutrition. Oh yea, hypocrites with bellies full of chicken abortions.. tell everyone how wrong it is to kill a dog that was trying to attack a child! What did those poor little chicks do to you? I'm a meat eater and you're a meat eater.. but it's ok as long as it comes in a pretty little package from Foodlion. Key the Twight Zone music for the (special people) < whispering
