Employee Accused Of Giving Free Food At Checkout Counter

A grocery store employee is accused of giving free food or significantly marked down prices to customers at the checkout counter. Chiquita Cannon of La Grange faces 12 counts of larceny by employee and 12 counts of embezzlement.

Deputies say the loss prevention department at Food Lion contacted them after discovering the thefts in July at their La Grange location.

Investigators say Cannon was not ringing up items, or sliding an item that was significantly cheaper in place of the item actually bought. Deputies say there were some occasions were Cannon would not ring up the groceries at all.

Cannon was jailed on a $10,000 bond.

LOL You mean to tell me that no one up here has taken something out of a snack machine that fell by shaking the machine when it tried to take your money? Never found that your kid put a pack of chewing gum in the bag that got over looked in the check out and didn't go back and pay for it? LOL, please.

To:crazy chic... LOL, you could never knock me off a post. I do appreciate you recognizing me as a queen! If someone gives you something it isn't stealing. Everyone that has given you something for Christmas... are you sure that present didn't ring up wrong? maybe was over-looked? Maybe it was stolen and given to you? You don't know that. But I'm sure you took it. Does that makes you better than the poor woman down the street, because you used a middle man? LOL ..Oh because you didn't know. ...Well you don't know when these people are doing it either. FYI.. I work and so do my "buddies".. and we don't get free stuff so you can't use us as an excuse for high prices. Sorry :( Here is what you do, you tell my "buddies" to quit having babies they can't afford. Go to the Belhaven park about 3 pm Saturday... and yell that out. Let me know how that works out for ya....

The worst thing about this is that the rest of us have to pay for the people that steal. Now I don't have a holier than thou attitude and I am not throwing any stones, but I am upset that this happens and the prices are raised for people like me. I go to the store with a certain amount of money and I don't expect anyone to give me anything for free. Nobody else that goes into a store should either. Now if you were to go to a soup kitchen then things would be free. There are ways to get food other than stealing!

Alpha Female...If the whole world took the notion to steal then where would we be? You and your 'buddies' are the reason we, the paying respectible public, have to pay higher prices. (Your full of it as always) As for the starving children tell your 'buddies' to quit having babies they cannot afford!

There are MANY programs in place to FEED THE HUNGRY CHILDREN! The first plan is "DON'T HAVE THEM IF YOU CAN'T FEED THEM" How hard is that? And I am sure she was no Robinhood. This land is plagued with the "All for me" mentality and she is no exception. Oh yes, some of you want to bring God into this. Please don't do that. She and all like here do not have Him on their mind when they commit these crimes. They don't care that the company that gave them a job TO FEED THEIR CHILDREN deserves loyalty and 100% honesty from them. Had she had God on her mind, she would still be employeed and over time made WAY more money than she was stealing. Its simple ignorance and greed covered up with false intentions. She thought she was "gettin' it from the MAN for her brothers & sisters" who will abandon her in HER time of trouble. They simply can't think past the present to the future and its consequences. Swift and severe punishment is required to stop the stealing.

I've seen department stores cut up shoes and clothes that they were gonna throw away. I've seen fast food joints trash food that was on the line too long. Stealing is stealing but, well, makes you wonder who the real criminals are.

Some of you must never had hungry children, some of you must never been broke, some of you must never been desperate. But Obviously, like S, some of you are holier than thou! Foodlion will be alright. This is the same company that uses retread tires on it's trucks. It's money before employees...

This is nothing new and not even news worthy. It happens everyday in most stores. I even caught 2 cashiers in a store I worked at, they had to go to court and get this::: One of them went on to become a cashier at Food Lion!! Geez!
