Senate Hearing Kicks Off Climate Bill Debate

Top Obama administration officials head to Capitol Hill today in hopes of making a case for aggressive action on climate change.

The hearing is the first of three planned by California Sen. Barbara Boxer, chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee.

While Senate Democrats have all but abandoned the likelihood of getting a climate bill passed this year, they hope to show some progress ahead of international climate talks in December. The White House has made its support clear.

Similar to a House-passed bill, the legislation would cap greenhouse gas emissions from power plants and large industrial facilities. Polluters would have to get permits, and the number of permits would drop gradually to dramatically cut heat-trapping pollution.

Republicans say the so-called cap-and-trade approach is a massive energy tax.

Whats next from Obama's great liberal Gov't. Could this be next? You must give up meat to save the planet The American people will need to consider turning vegetarian Obama said" If the world is to conquer climate change, according to a leading authority on global warming. Direct emissions of methane from cows and pigs is a significant source of greenhouse gases. Methane is 23 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a global warming gas. Future fact or fiction. Pass the corn Obama just outlawed meat. It is for our well being ,and he knows ,because we can not think for ourselves Obama will think for us all. Hail King "O"

I find it amazing that with all the political hype for solar and wind as an alternate source of energy, the towers in the picture, are nuclear. Jimmy Carter killed the cleanest form of energy we have ever had, yet, its not part of the consideration for alternative, non poluting energy. First off, Nc is going through global cooling with record cold this past year. Yet, I am told to believe we have global warming, which is heavily pushed by an ex politician, Al Gore. Sorry, I am not that gullible. I am yet to see one fact to support global warming, just political hype it exists. Liberals can find as many scientist claiming it does, yet facts, don't support it.
