A local group has volunteered to pay the doctor bills of the baby whose toes were chewed off by a pit bull puppy in Onslow County.
The four-month-old child of Robbie Jenkins and Tremayne Spillman in Onslow County lost his toes in September. Lawmen say the two were asleep and didn't hear the baby cry.
Now the Onslow County Shriners say they will pay to take the baby to the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina for treatment, according to Sheriff Ed Brown.
Jenkins and Spillman are still in jail, with a court appearance scheduled for next Monday.
