POLICE: Kinston Mum Thief Nabbed

Kinston Police say they've caught the so-called mum thief.

Investigators say they received numerous Crime Stoppers tips that lead to the arrest of 48-year-old Thomas Malloy of Kinston.

He's charged with two counts of misdemeanor larceny and released on a written promise to appear in court on November 19.

Police said someone had been targeting Riggs Produce on Highway 11 North, taking their mums. A total of 53 plants, with a value of almost $600, were taken since October 2nd.

An infra-red surveillance camera was set up and police released pictures of the thief on Monday.

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Malloy has a criminal record, including convictions for drugs and shoplifting.

Kinston police say the thief has struck Riggs Produce on Highway 11 North four different times. A total of 53 plants, with a value of almost $600, have been taken since October 2nd.

An infrared camera was set up to catch the thief. Police say the thief's complexion may be darker than on the images and they know he smokes cigarettes, as seen in one of the photographs.
