Houseless Does Not Necessarily Mean Homeless

Terry Lee Ballard holds a sign when he goes looking for work in front of hardware stores. It reads: "No job. No food. Almost homeless."

He's almost homeless because he lives in a tent at Timberline Campground, about 30 miles west of Nashville. Rent is $325 a month for a site big enough to hold a camper and picnic table. The rate includes water and electricity plus laundry facilities, showers and access to a pool. Other amenities aren't so standard. There's a small food bank, free school supplies and a pile of donated clothes.

Neil Donovan, executive director of the National Coalition for the Homeless, says many people move to campgrounds when they find themselves without permanent housing.

I was fired from my job last year working for a crappy fast food franchise, who shall remain nameless (Bojangle's/Tands, Inc.). I ended up getting evicted, but I'm hard to kill, you can't keep me down. This is what I'm doing now, camping. I'm not all fired up to go to a homeless shelter, they're always full and you have to keep your eye out for the unsavory types, and you DARN sure won't see me hanging out at the shopping center standing in front of the grocery store, begging for money. It's actually not that bad. It's kinda fun. I've always been a Daniel Boone/Rambo type, anyway.

This is how it should be, people helping people. Thank God there is people like the campground owners. It looks like a dog on that bed. I think it's great that people are aloud to bring their pets to. Pets are like a family member and shouldn't be tossed aside. Congrates to the campground owners.
