Mayor, Pardoned Felon Appointed To State ABC Commission

A politician, who once served three months in prison, has been appointed to the state ABC Commission.

Zander Guy, currently mayor or Surf City, was named to the state board Wednesday by Governor Beverly Perdue.

In the late 1980's Guy resigned as Jacksonville mayor and later served time for obtaining property under false pretenses. Guy was a Jacksonville insurance agent who authorities say pocketed premiums and failed to actually write the policies.

He was later pardoned by then Governor Jim Martin.

In a news release, the Governor's Office said Guy has been a realtor and developer for more than 25 years and was also a member of the N.C. Banking Commission.

The ABC Commission has three members, appointed by the governor, and oversees the control, sale, purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the state.
