New Idea: Lie-Detector Tests For Politicians

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- A political consultant for New Jersey lawmakers has proposed a list-ditch effort to rid the state of political corruption: Require lie-detector tests for candidates and officeholders.

Republican consultant George Dredden said Monday that the polygraph tests would be a means of reform for a state where more 130 public officials have pleaded guilty or have been convicted for corruption this decade.

Dredden told the state Assembly Republican Policy committee that plenty of laws are on the books to deal with corrupt politicians once they're in office.

But he says his suggestion would weed them out before they get there.

Dredden acknowledged that the idea might not be constitutional. But he says the state needs to do something radical to fight its corruption problem.

Buzz and Barlow, wait, think about this buisness opportunity. We form a company, get a research check from Uncle Same to find some lie detector that could survive both houses lies. Can you imagine? Current lie detectors would short out for sure with just Barney Franks alone. Christopher Dodd, the wires would burn up to the machine. This would be one heavy duty machine to survive this "industrial quality" lies. I am sure John Edwards is out of the picture, we would have our challenges, however, John with smoke the nuclear reactor...

Once again I agree with a statement that Mr. Barlow has made. But I have to add that there isn't a lie detector on the market strong enough to be used for this service. Buzz-

If they did it to all and they were sent home from DC, maybe the country could start to recover. They need to take a long vacation. And the "sewer rats" an even longer one, that is the help this country needs.

To voter. There is one SURE way to tell if a politician is lying and it does not cost one red cent and no one has to vote on it. Just watch them. If their lips are moving, they are lying.

If this were to happen, and all politicians were sent home that failed, Washington would look like a ghost town. All that would be left would be sewer rats, two and four legged.Of course, that's pretty much whats there now, a bunch of uppity sewer rats, with names like Kennedy, Feinstein, Pelosi, Schumer,Boxer,Obama, Biden,Holder,Clinton,Dodd, Franks, and many more .
