CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. -- A man thought to be missing at sea has been found alive and well and unaware authorities were looking for him.
U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Scott Epprson says that Dennis Larson was spotted in a small dinghy after he made a supply run to Catalina Island off California.
His unattended sailboat had been found 14 miles off shore earlier in the day, prompting a search and rescue mission.
Epprson says Larson had dropped anchor on the sailboat and used his dingy to go to Catalina, but the sailboat apparently drifted farther out to sea.
Larson didn't know rescuers were looking for him when an auxiliary Coast Guard worker spotted him at Isthmus Harbor.
