Terror Plot In Australia Busted

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says the exposure of a suicide attack plot in Australia is a sober reminder of the threat of terrorism to Australia.

Police arrested four men Tuesday in raids in the southern city of Melbourne involving more than 400 officers. Commanders said the
arrests foiled a plot linked to a Somali Islamic extremist group to
attack an Australian army base.

Rudd told a news conference that the arrests would worry
Australians but that security agencies are being vigilant in combating the terrorist threat.

He said exposure of the plot did not warrant a raising of the official terrorism alert from its current medium level, but that the raids are "a sober reminder that the threat of terrorism to Australia continues."
