Jobless NYC Woman Sues College for $70K in Tuition

A New York City woman who says she can't find a job is suing the college where she earned a bachelor's degree.

Trina Thompson filed a lawsuit last week against Monroe College in Bronx Supreme Court. The 27-year-old is seeking the $70,000 she spent on tuition.

Thompson says she's been unable to find gainful employment since she received her information technology degree in April.

She says the Bronx school's Office of Career Advancement hasn't provided her with the leads and career advice it promises.

Monroe College spokesman Gary Axelbank says Thompson's lawsuit is completely without merit.

The college insists it helps its graduates find jobs.

Hey OTPC, its all about economics, if it can be done in a country where labor costs are cheaper, so be it. That's the beauty of capitalism.

How can she sue? The school made her smart enough to figure out how to try and get her money back and get the tax payers to cover her expenices.

This is an example of why colleges are so smart. People bring knowledge to the school but do not take any out. What is the name of the lawyer handling the case. I know several hundred people who are in the same boat.

That's like suing McDonald's b/c you're overweight! Has this woman taken advantage of the help that the college provides or is she waiting for someone to call her and offer a job. Like anything else, you have to help yourself. My next question would be... did she go to school on grants & government funding or did she pay for it out of pocket. If she had $70k to begin with, then how did she get it? Was it student loans? Was it her parents money? Lot's and lot's of questions. I have my degree in Criminal Justice and I was not able to find a job and I DID pay for it out of my pocket, but I'm not suing my alma mater because I don't have a job in that field. Does she realize what the unemployment rate is? There are tens of thousands of people w/o jobs. Sometimes you have to suck it up and find other employment outside of your degree field. I did and I have been at my job for 15 years.

If this stupid lawsuit go through the colleges across the country will have to shut down. But the way the courts are today I wouldn't be suprised if they awarded her the money.
