Residents Warned About Black Bear

Havelock Police say a black bear has recently been spotted within the city limits and urge residents not to approach it.

The bear has been spotted in the area of the Havelock Senior Center, the Slocum Housing complex and in the area of the MCAS Cherry Point Main Gate.

People are cautioned not to approach the animal and to contact police if they see the bear.

Havelock police have spoken with officers of North Carolina Wildlife and have been advised that the bear is most likely seeking a food source.

Residents and business owners are cautioned not to leave food or food waste in the outside areas immediately surrounding their homes or businesses, in garage areas, or in unsecured garbage cans or dumpsters.
