NC Sheriff's Deputy Uses Corvette To Stop Speeders

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - At least one sheriff’s deputy in North Carolina won’t have any trouble catching speeders. Multiple media outlets reported Wednesday that the Wake County Sheriff’s Department has a Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Chevrolet said the car has a top track speed of 198 mph, with a base sticker price of $74,875. Its V8 racing engine generates 505 horsepower.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Phyllis Stevens said the car didn’t cost the county any money since it was seized from a drug dealer.

Wake County isn’t the first to used souped up cars.

Former Davidson County Sheriff Gerald Hege once had a Chevrolet Impala SS with a Corvette engine

Former Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Barker used several Camaro Z28s for traffic enforcement.

That corvette is nice...but is no match for Beaufort County Sheriff's Department's motorcycle. Our Sheriff Jordan has stopped plenty of speeders on his sportbike. We are fortunate to have a Sheriff willing to enforce laws on his own time on his own personal motorcycle. Who needs a corvette when you have a personal motorcycle?

Robert: I respectfully disagree. The old classic movies just CAN'T be improved upon, and besides..NOBODY can touch Jackie Gleason as Sheriff Justice! Besides, "Smokey And The Bandit" is required viewing for all southerners;it's been rightly said that it was'nt a movie,it was a documentary! Add to that list "Blazing Saddles", and "The Outlaw Josey Wales", by the way.....Regards, C

Speaking of car chases. I wish they would remake Smokey and the Bandit and have Johnny Knoxville as the Bandit, Kid Rock as Snowman, Jamie Presly as the girl and John Goodman as Sherrif Justice. It would be perfect!

I wouldn't want to be the Law enforcement officer assigned to this vehicle. A corvette is made out of fiberglass, and I have seen what happens to them after a wreck. The driver's body was picked up in a grocery bag with part of the foot left on the brake pedal. I hope this officer uses every brain God gave him to keep himself safe.

Let's just hope and pray that having this fast of a car does not temp the driver of the corvette to try and run someone down no matter how fast they have to go. We all know that high speed chases can quickly turn in to tragady for everyone involved including our children and parents that are just driving from or too home or work. It is a fact that when you give someone a vehicle with that much power and speed, they always seem to at some point and time try it out JUST to see how fast it will really go. Remember, it's not the speed that kills, it's the sudden stop from hitting someone else.
