Six-Year-Old Girl Escapes Would-Be Rapist While Held In Leg Shackles

A Massachusetts prosecutor says a 6-year-old girl was kidnapped by a would-be rapist but managed to escape from his apartment despite being in leg shackles.

Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz says the girl was found Saturday afternoon as police searched the apartment complex in Hanover, about 20 miles southeast of Boston, where she and the suspect live. Her mother reported her missing at about 1:30 p.m.

Cruz says the girl pointed officers to an apartment where she was taken. They arrested 26-year-old Justin Shine after a struggle.

Shine is to be arraigned Monday on charges of kidnapping, attempted rape, assault and resisting arrest. It's unclear whether he has an attorney.

The girl was also taken to a hospital, but authorities declined to comment on her injuries.

Child Molesters should be sentenced to death immediately. No trial.

This is sad. I believe if we had stricter penalties for child abuse, it wouldn't happen nearly as much. The vague threat of reciprocated abuse in prison clearly isn't enough, and some prisons will keep child abusers out of the general population anyway. Appropriate punishments would actually be unconstitutional, but it might be constitutional to elevate it to a capital offense, at least in cases of penetration and/or molestation accompanied by other assaults (e.g. a beating) and/or psychological torment resulting in long-term trauma. These effects are very real, but these offenders only have the short term effects in mind. A quick thrill, and a short prison sentence if they're caught. And that needs to change. The punishment needs to send the message that no matter what thrill you may find in this crime, it will not be worth the punishment, not by half.
