Two Pit Bulls Kill Ten Year-Old Boy

Authorities say two pit bulls fatally mauled a 10-year-old boy in East Texas.

The Rusk County Sheriff's Office says witnesses reported seeing the dogs drag Justin Clinton down the side of the road Monday in the small community of Leverett's Chapel.

Tyler television station KLTV reports that a passing motorist pulled the animals off the boy.

The fourth-grader was pronounced dead at a Longview hospital.

Justin's great-aunt, Carolyn Spence, tells the Longview News-Journal that the family "just can't believe it."

The Rev. Edwin Findley, acting as spokesman for the family that owns the dogs, says both families have been hurt.

Sheriff's deputies are investigating.
Rusk County Animal Control has the dogs.

I had this pitbull hanging from my armpit... in my backyard, this was my nieghbors dog who had 3 kids of her own. She kept saying its a nice dog. Theyare wild animals. Ownerthink they're so sweet don't understand the victims side. PIT BULLS ARE UNPREDICTABLE,PITS DON'T BITE ..THEY KEEP GOING, RIPPING MAULING THATS THE DIFFERENCE. "Dog bite deaths and maimings US and Canada (1982-2007) By compiling US and Canadian press accounts between 1982 and 2007, Animal People News determined the types of breeds most responsible for death and serious injury. The combination of pit bulls, rottweilers and wolf hybrids: * 77% of attacks that induce bodily harm * 73% of attacks to children * 83% of attack to adults * 70% of attacks that result in fatalities * 77% that result in maiming Interesting fact about pit bulls: * Pit bulls attack adults nearly as often as they attack children, a characteristic not found in any other breed." Wow, interesting comments from pro and anti-pitbull fans. Well, I would just like to address Walter who not only has stereotyped the pitbull but the owners as well, Walter I've owned my pit for about 5 years now, the first 3 years we went to obedience school(Reward) atleast 2 times if not 3 tines a week, she's has a great temperment, well-behaved,loves people and most of all, likes to be loved, I am aware of her capability to cause damage the same as I am aware of any doq with her size, strength and speed, so I don't put myself or her in comprimising situations, now a bit about me, I am 40 yrs. old, Retired Military, with a Corporate Level job, and I'm not hurting! so not all pitbull owners "live in a trailer or have jacked-up '80s Caprice on 24 inch wheels", those type of comments belong in a totally different forum(Either HATE OR IGNORANT), like any animal or person, all we want to be is loved, anything less you may see the bad side of anyone or anything!

I have a pit bull and she is a big baby. I have never accepted any aggression from her towards humans or other animals. I have never taught her to be mean, yet she will tear your *ss up if you come near my house un-invited. This is a normal behavior for pit bulls and all dogs to be protective of their territory. Other than that she has never been aggressive, but I know she is capable. People keep your dogs in control. Don't let them run loose. Free reign will elicit bad behavior. I guarantee it.

I don't care if it is a pit or one of those yap yap dogs. If the dog shows aggressive behavior around me or my children, especially when unprovoked, I will, at the very least, dig a hole. I love dogs as I have two labs myself, however I have no problem defending myself, my children, or other children. Pits are getting a bad rap. I have several friends that own one, and they are very calm, well behaved, fun loving dogs. Heck, one is so lazy she will not go outside to pee when it is raining. She hangs her backside off the porch, then does her business. My heart goes out to the family of the deceased. May you find inner peace one day. God Bless.

I'm deeply sorry for the loss, my sympathy goes out to the family. Pit bulls isn't as like alot of people see them as, there is other dogs that's just as bad as pit bulls.

The owners of those dogs should be charged with murder.Everyone should have a heart, and understand that these dogs are loving animals, but when trained irresponsibly they can be dangerous, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER BREED! Open your eyes with this video

First of all I would like to say that I am truely sorry for this families loss, and I will be keeping them in my prayers. I really hate that this has happened. Furthermore after reading all of these comments I really thought I needed to share my opinion about Pit Bulls. I am an owner of a pit bull. She is the most caring loving dog that I have ever had. It really upsets me when people are so narrow minded and assume that all dogs of this breed are killers. These dogs just like many other breeds seek satisfaction in pleasing their owners and some owners are very irresponsible with the way the raise their animals.Just because these dogs look fiece and "intimidating" doesnt mean they are. Thats like assuming someone that is built and has muscles is automatically out to harm someone. ALL ANIMALS NO MATTER THE BREED,ACT THE WAY THE OWNER HAS TRAINED THEM. SO to everyone that thinks it cool to train pit bulls to fight and be vicious, thank you for giving my dog a stereo type.

squedkydunk, you would have to outlaw all of them. Anyone who owns a pit is....well.
