Man Jumps Off Bridge To Meet Friend

When drivers on a stretch of South Carolina interstate saw someone jump off a bridge, they called 911, fearing they were watching a suicide. Instead, multiple media outlets reported Thursday that the callers were just watching Lyle Silkwood jump from the Interstate 26 bridge into the Saluda River near Columbia to meet a passing friend in a boat after his truck ran out of gas.

Firefighters, paramedics and rescue boats searched the river for more than an hour.

Authorities finally figured out what was going on when they ran the license tag on the truck and called Silkwood's home. He answered and told them what happened.

Authorities said they spoke to Silkwood about the incident and he was able to get some gas and drive off in his truck.

People who run out of gas are the ones who do jump from bridges. Ever seen someone who keeps an empty can in their trunk because they frequently run out of gas? I see them all the time. Kind of goes together.

you guys are rediculous! god forbid you ever feel the need to jump off a bridge, but how awful would that be if someone you loved was seen jumping off a giant bridge and the people drivin' by say "hey guys, im sure he's just goin to meet a friend" ..rather be safe than sorry. give those people a break. you know dag-on-well you would have been one of the ones calling 911 had you seen this..

One night out for Hussein and Michelle costs more taxpayer money than the entire search. What was that about wasting money? Resources were tied up that could have been available to others though.

There comes a point when people should THINK about their actions. I agree with the person that said "tax dollars have been wasted". They should have gave him a ticket!!!!

It's against the law to jump from a bridge. All this tax money (for a rescue) was wasted, and the jumper is a hero...Way to go..This Sux..
