Fisherman Hooks A Live One In Gulf Waters

Florida authorities say a commercial fisherman reeled in a live missile in the Gulf of Mexico and kept it on his boat for 10 days.

The sheriff's office in Pinellas County says the boat's captain, Rodney Salomon, hooked the air-to-air guided missile 50 miles off the Panhandle town of Panama City. The Air Force and Navy use Gulf waters off the Panhandle for weapons training.

Salomon had the missile aboard his boat for 10 days before returning Monday to port in Madeira Beach, near St. Petersburg.

A bomb squad was called in from MacDill Air Force Base and dismantled the missile in an empty parking lot.

The bomb squad said the missile was very corroded from floating in saltwater for a long time. They said it was live and in a very unstable state.

Did any of you see this fisherman on Shep Smith (fox), I don't think he had the smarts to cut the line. Obama will make him "Gulf Czar".

blackwater(sorry X pronounced zee?) and other mercenary companies will be fighting/privatizing all of our wars in 20 years. They will be outnumbering our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq by next year.Almost 250,000 of those folks now and counting. The military industrial complex that Eisenhower warned us of in his farewell address is coming to fruition.Chris not everyone is paying the same rate per income but we still all pay for it(wasted missles) and that is the problem. How many bombs and bullets do we need? How about some money for books and beds and bandages?I would love to pay that instead of increasing a military budget that is already more than the rest of the world COMBINED!

To Ordananceman: WITN didn't get the facts wrong, they just reported what was reported to them. Note the bottom of the story.... (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

I read this same story on another new site and they said that the warhead is a telemetry warhead, which means it only tracks the flight path data of the missile and whether or not the pilot scored a kill. It also sends out signals in a certain pattern to simulate at fragmentation type of hit. The missile is what we call and AIM-9 Sidewinder. WITN, get your facts straight before you post this story. If it were a live warhead they would have taken it else where for disposal. That type of warhead is a high explosive fragmentation type which could take out plenty. Oh and wise one, this is what we call Ordnance, not ordinance. Just a reminder. You can correct me on my spelling if you like. Oh and Derek, they are about 47 grand.....a piece. Cheap for and Air-to-Air missile.

Anybody in their right mind would have cut the line and let it sink back where it was.If it had gone off, either this moron or his family would probably have sued the USAF or the Navy and won a lot of our tax paid dollars.

Thank God that thing didn't go off in his boat during those ten days. That could have been a tragedy.
