POLICE: Marine Arrested After Meeting 12-Year-Old

A Camp Lejeune Marine is accused of meeting a 12-year-old Smithfield girl that he met on the internet. Police tell WITN News that the girl's 10-year-old sister was also with them.

19-year-old Anthony Ferguson was charged by Smithfield police with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Police say Ferguson was spotted in his car with the 12-year-old, and her 10-year-old sister around 3:00 am on last Saturday.

Officers say they were responding to another call when they spotted his car.

Police say Ferguson met the girl in an internet chatroom and later arranged to meet her. The girl is said to have left her home with her sister without her parents' knowledge to meet with the Marine.

Police say no evidence exists of any sexual activity between Ferguson and the two girls.

Who's to say the girls are totally innocent? What have thier parents been teaching them if they think it's OK to sneak out in the middle of the night to meet a total stranger? Chances are they've done this before. And from what I hear around base is that the girls claimed to be 18 in the chat room. Of course, why you would stay after you see that they clearly AREN'T 18 is beyond me. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to ALL parents to better monitor what their teens and tweens do and use it as a good lesson of what NOT to do.

To Why0311Why: since you feel the need to point out other people's grammatical errors I feel inclined to do the same for you. You spelled quiet as in lower your voice. You meant quite. There is incorrect also. You should have typed they're. There are a number of other mistakes, too numerous to add. But I do agree with your arguement however, the public should know!!

marinewife. If you address a Marine, the "M" is always capitalised! I've been around Marines for quiet awhile now. There not saints by far. I do however give praise when praise is due. I don't condemn the whole base because of the bad apples in the barrel. I hope this moron gets a active sentence, well deserved may I add.If nothing more, he should of known better than to hang out with 10 and 12 year olds. Here's the "but". It seems like the base wants Marines to be out of he spotlight. Why? I just saw a case where Marines were directly involved with a major wrong doing, "but" the people in charge wanted to keep them out of it. WHY??? If they are guilty or involved. LET THE PUBLIC KNOW!! Why hide the fact the Marine Corps does have boneheads????

To Ron; maybe those scumbags need to be the ones sent off to Iraq while the good ones need to be pulled out of Iraq for a change and then there will be a safer United States right there for you. This 19 year old needs to stay behind the slammer, IN IRAQ that is.

Listen, this is not the MARINES fault, just like if someone gets in trouble from another organization, it is the person! If someone gets in trouble from a church does that mean oh those church people, what have happened to them. The marines WILL take care of this. It will not be taken care of lightly. Yes we take care of our own, weather they are good marines and if there bad well they are prosecuted to the fullest extent. Everything changes, not just the marine corp. It take practice to make something good, thats why were the best. Don't bag on the Marine Corp, Bag on the man who was so stupid to to that and to humiliate his fellow marines and his family.

What this guy did is just gross..however he is red flagged because he is a marine. There is a story on CNN of a guy who was in the army who is now charged with rape and murder when he was deployed but you dont hear anyone making a big stink about that. The other services im sure have there handful of retards and scumbags but they arent highlighted like the marine corps. However back to what happened. The parents should also get into trouble along with the marine and two girls!

What has happened to the Marine Corps to which I once belonged? They are allowing a lot of scumbags to enlist. They must have lowered their standards. So sad.
