Cover Up: Nude Sunbathers Are Breaking The Law

Sunbathers in Brunswick County may no longer be able to avoid those tan lines.

The Star-News of Wilmington reports that officials are trying to stop sunbathers from flaunting it all on Bird Island. The island near Sunset Beach has long been a gathering place for those who want to bask in the nude.

A local physician recently complained about the nudity after a sightseeing trip with his children. County Commissioner Marty Cooke
says he did some research and found that Bird Island was not an
official nude beach and that the full exposure is against state law.

Cooke says he will work with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office to come up with a sign banning nudity on North Carolina's portion of the island. The western portion lies in South Carolina.

Letting your child see nudity is sexual assault? Please tell me you're kidding. So right now there are people all over Europe (and the US)committing a sexual crime because their child is at a nude beach? What about kids skinny dipping in the past, and what is so wrong with kids seeing nudity? Would you rather your kids be exposed to negative nudity, like porn? Nudity is freedom of expression, which is a constitutional right. Prudes do not have a right to not be offended by nudity. Being offended is a choice. Are you going to complain to the YMCA or your child's school because of nudity in the locker room? Last week I was in a public pool locker room and a man brought in his two year old daughter while I was nude. Is that sexual assault because she saw me nude? Ask yourself what is more "sexual" a three year old on a beach nude or in a small bikini that is made to draw attention to certain areas? Is America a free country or not? Nudism is not sex.

Leave it to WITN to expose the naked truth on the issue. If they do this in the Mediterranean or other places fine, let them continue. We are the greatest country in the world for a reason, we have morals. Besides, walking into my parents room when I was young and mom was dressing was disgusting...get a life folks.

I'm originally from South Florida and only began nude sunbathing about 8 years ago. To ayone who thinks it's lewd, you are uptight, prude and probably have serious issues. The nude beach back home was filled with people from all countries, of different races, religions, shapes, sizes and AGES. Families (yes, with children) go there and there is NOTHING lewd or lascivious AT ALL about the human form. Nothing takes place at these beaches besides nude sunbathing and meeting friendly, open, enlightened, respectful, responsible, self-assured people. If only EVERYONE could be so comfortable with themselves, we wouldn't have HALF the issues and problems in this world that we currently deal with. REPRESSION CREATES PERVERSION. Remember that.

Why do so many people think their kids will be traumatized by seeing nudity? Kids don't have any problem with it until their parents tell them it's disgusting. How can YOU possibly be embarrassed seeing another person nude and who are you to tell anyone they should be ashamed to be nude? So the flabby nude guy is going to become more attractive if he wears a speedo? If you are modest by nature that's fine, but you have no right to tell anyone they can't be nude. If you were wearing a suit on a clothing optional beach and were told you had to get naked, would you be OK with that? Grow up and get a life. It is not a sin to see someone's butt.

Europeans are less likely than Americans to view the human body as evil. You'll see nudity at most any beach along the Mediterranean--or at least toplessness

To the first guy: there is "absolutely no reason to go nude at a beach" !?!? Are you out of your mind? It's HOT at a beach. That's the best reason in the world to not wear clothing. It's simple common sense unless you're brainwashed, superstitious, and repressed.

The problem lies with people such as this take over everything. If you want to be nude then stay home. There is absolutley no reason to go nude at a beach. All it is is another political hippy thing.
