NYC Fried Chicken Joints Under Fire For Obama Name

Two New York City fried chicken restaurants in predominantly black neighborhoods are under fire for putting President Barack Obama's name on their signs.

City Councilman Charles Barron says he will organize a demonstration next week outside Obama Fried Chicken in his Brooklyn district. Organizers said they may also target Obama Fried Chicken & Pizza in Harlem.

Barron says people from the community are outraged by what they
saw as a racist connection to Barack Obama and fried chicken.

At Obama Fried Chicken & Pizza in Harlem, the "O" and the "A" had been filled in so that the awning sign read "Bam" instead of the president's name.

The White House says it doesn't approve of using the president's name and likeness for commercial purposes.

I agree with anonymous, and I also bet MLK would not have voted for Obama, he would have been ashamed of him. Obama is not what MLK represented and died fighting for.

Ok, let me see, if I explain my comment, WITN will post it. White people have been labeled as liking alot of mayo on their sandwiches. Black people have been labeled as liking fried chicken. So, do you think that, since President Obama is said to be bi-racial, he likes alot of mayo on his chicken sandwiches? Geeze, give me a break...LOL

This is making a mountain out of a molehill. If you don't think there are companies making money of Obamamania then you should open your eyes. The popularity of using his name and even his election symbol are being to promote anything from soft drinks to athletic jerseys. I would like to complain about people making fun of dumb people. I think its profiling. Look and you will find any excuse to play race.

"they saw as a racist connection to Barack Obama and fried chicken". Are you kidding me?! When are blacks going to stop crying over small stuff like this. They are in Harlem, so I doubt it was meant to be racist. I get so sick and tired of hearing the NAACP and other organizations complain about racism, they are what bring out racism in people. Plus I LOVE fried chicken, who doesn't?! Put my name on the sign.

You can't tell me Obama don't like fried chicken. HA, I bet they get a bail out check, just on the name.
