A long standing fundraiser for nearly two decades held at East Carolina University may be fading.
The 17th Annual Med-Law Classic was held at Minges Coliseum Thursday night. It's a fundraiser to benefit the Pitt County Health Education Foundation. Players made up of doctors and lawyers play a basketball game to raise money.
Event organizer Kelly Baxter says the total amount of money raised has been declining the past couple of years in connection with loss of interest in the game. She says they're trying to save a great tradition. "As with anything after 17 years, you have periods where you lose a little bit of steam and then gain it back. This year we brought in the Greenville Fire/Rescue. Typically our events have been the doctors playing the lawyers. This year they teamed up to challenge the Greenville Fire/Rescue. It's been great for us and we really hope to continue that and revive this event."
Baxter says the total amount of money raised from Thursday's game should reach over $50,000.
