Local Business Leaders Get Advice On How To Survive In Economy

In today's current economic climate, businesses are looking for any advantage. Tuesday, they had their chance to gain some insight.

Business experts spoke at a seminar on the campus of Pitt County Community College Tuesday afternoon.

Business representatives received a crash course in recession survival.

Business experts preached that businesses need to be more competitive.

Wade Dixon who owns 28 McDonald's in Eastern Carolina says, times are tough, business must go above and beyond their normal routine.

Business experts say America's current recession started in December 2007 lasting 16 months to this point.

From 1973-1975 a recession lasted 16 months with unemployment rates similar to the nation's current rate at 8.1 percent.

    Good program, but why is it only news if it happens at Pitt CC? I've seen announcements of similar programs recently at several community colleges and others hosted by cities and towns, but they rarely make news at WITN.

    Business at any level have to learn to steer away from a wasteful culture. Americans by nature are wasteful because everything has always been so plentiful and available in this country and its been taking for granite that it will always be that way. Maybe this will serve as a wake up call that resources are not endless. Learn how to reduce or eliminate the waste in your company (meaning reduction in labor cost becoming more efficient with less). Recyle as much as possible. Become creative, involve your employee"s in this process. YOur employee"s play a key part i nyour companys success.
