NC Museum Restores World War II Boat

A World War II landing craft that may be one of only 12 remaining has been restored at a North Carolina museum and will be returned to its owners.

The Carteret County Times-News reported that the Higgins Boat was restored at the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort. It will be returned in early April to the First Division Museum in Wheaton, Ill.

Workers at the Beaufort museum's Harvey W. Smith Watercraft
Center spent seven months restoring the boat. More than 23,000 of
the boats were made during the war, but only 12 are believed to
remain.

Nearly 100 people attended a ceremony to recognize the
boat's restoration.
