Dust off the slide rules and recharge the calculators. Tuesday, 3/3/09, is Square Root Day.
For the mathematically challenged, three is the square root of nine.
The holiday for math buffs occurs only nine times each century.
A teacher in Redwood City, California, has started a contest to get people excited about the event. The winner gets -- you guessed it -- $339 for having the biggest Square Root Day event.
The last such day was five years ago, Feb. 2, 2004. The next one is seven years away, on April 4, 2016.
And the next one after that? You do the math.
