Read Across America

Congressmen, college students, education officials and others all took time Monday to read to kids as part of "Read Across America" day.

Congressman Walter Jones took part in a parade of storybook characters in the gym at Tarawa Terrace at Camp Lejeune before heading to classrooms to read a story for children about being president.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. June St. Clair Atkinson visited Eastern Elementary in Washington. The education leader urges parents to get their children reading at a young age.

Students at Northwest Elementary in Greenville were entertained by ECU fraternity and sorority members who dressed up like Dr. Seuss characters and read to them.

"Read Across America" coincides with Dr. Suess's birthday and is meant to get kids excited about reading.
