The mayor of a California town is resigning after he was criticized for an e-mail with a controversial picture.
But he plans to remain on the City Council.
Los Alamitos Mayor Dean Grose sent an e-mail, which contained an image of the White House lawn planted with watermelons. It had the title 'no Easter egg hunt this year.'
Grose says he sent the picture to a group of friends, including an African-American businesswoman who called for a public apology.
Grose says he accepts that the e-mail was in poor taste and has affected his ability to lead the city. Grose said he didn't mean to offend anyone and claimed he was unaware of the racial stereotype linking black people with eating watermelons.
