New DMV Commissioner Robertson Begins Next Week

The state's former Alcohol Law Enforcement Division director will begin work next week as North Carolina's new DMV commissioner.

Mike Robertson will serve as chief of the Division of Motor Vehicles starting Monday. Transportation Secretary Gene Conti made the announcement Friday.

Robertson was ALE director from 2002 to 2007. His agency enforced the state's alcohol, tobacco, gambling and boxing laws. He has more than 35 years of law enforcement.

Robertson succeeds former commissioner Bill Gore, who served
late in Gov. Mike Easley's administration.

The DMV oversees vehicle registration and safety and emissions inspections in addition to issuing driver's licenses.

All in the family. The state should hire someone trained in this field, instead of keeping one of the "Good ol boys." Politics and corruption lives on.
