President Obama Wants To Raise Military Pay

President Barack Obama says he wants to raise the pay of America's fighting forces and improve health care and benefits for veterans.

The president also says he will soon announce a way to responsibly end the war in Iraq and a new path for the war in Afghanistan. Defense and foreign policy were a small part of Obama's first address to Congress on Tuesday that focused on the economic crisis.

Obama did not give specifics, but he said his new budget proposal for next year will provide for an expansion of the armed forces and increases in their pay and benefits.

I personally thank all the people that support the military and their pay raises. It is good to see people still care about the men and women that sacrifice so much to defend this nation and all the people within it. I dont know if everyone realizes how much we sacrifice with the way many people talk in all honesty. I joined to defend my country, family, friends, and the citizens of this country from another 9-11 (Lord forbid something like that happens again). Or has everyone already forgotten about that little piece of history that took place so "LONG" ago. But just little reminder of how much we sacrifice, our time with our familys let it be mother and father, sisters and brothers, wives and husbands, or sons and daughters. Some units are deployed anywhere from six months to a whole year or more away from the states. The lower ranks are payed just enough so that they dont need welfare. Oh and I just remembered the smallest sacrifice of all, many sacrified thier lives for you.

Anonomous posters and Unwise one, I am a democrat as I have posted it many times. You follow party lines and call "conservatives" stupid, jokes, whatever, accept the point that you cannot follow party lines for everything. Sorry, a terd is a terd sometimes. You attack the military, don't like them getting raises, call Americas war, Bush's war, whatever. You do don't seem to understand "who has brought you that freedom" to say what you wish, other than the witn moderators. I am your worst enemy, I am a moderate. Just like the other 85% of people. Instead of ignoring the facts, I chose to learn about them so I can trully be on the facts. You choose to follow the liberal progressive side which is the minority. Well, most of us recognize what the military has done for us in America and continually commits to, taking care of not only us, but other countries with murderous dictators. Yet progressive liberals don't see the cause as worthy. You would rather support killing unborn babies.

Pay increases for men and women in uniform are to be capped 2.9 percent, an amount described in the budget summary as reflecting "the priorities of an administration that is committed to caring for the service members who protect our security and the families who support them." Last year, military personnel received a 3.9 percent pay increase, half a percentage point more than President George W. Bush recommended. He is not handing out any payraises!

To all of you that think President Obama is going to give the Military a raise are right. But it will be like Former President Clinton did, .5 or more percent below inflation. Why do you think the first thing the President Bush did was give out big pay raises. And for veterans complaining about benefits, until you weed out all the fraud the system is going to stay the same. And to JD, what do you think is going to happen when the military gets lawyer and doctor pay. That's right, 2 years later, it won't be enough. Ask the teachers, who by the way make more than 80 percent of the military and get about 3 months off a year instead 30 days for the military.

It`s about time!veterans have been badly treated when they have served their country and upon seperation from service government does not want too give the pay they so much would have too lose a limb or something to get what is rightfully yours.

FINALLY!!!! Our military deserves a pay raise, more than just $50. My husband has been in for 8 years, and still had to work a 2nd job for a few years. And, yes-I work also. With inflation and the cost of child care for working parents, the raises our military were getting weren't even enough to get happy about. Even if people do not agree with the war in Iraq/Afghanistan, they should still understand that these people have families to support and deserve more pay for what they do. They help keep all of us safe from harm, and they put themselves at risk while doing it. I think military should be paid as much as doctors and lawyers. They all help people when they are in need.

Obama just spent more American tax payer money in 1 Month. On his Spending Bill. Then the cost of the entire 10 years the Viet Nam war cost us in US Dollars. Go Big O
