Court: Christian School Can Expel Lesbian Students

A California appeals court has ruled that a Christian high school can expel students because of an alleged lesbian relationship.

The 4th District Court of Appeal in Riverside upheld California Lutheran High School's right as a private, religious organization to exclude students based on sexual orientation.

Two girls sued claiming they were discriminated against after they were expelled from the Wildomar school in 2005. A lower court said the school isn't bound by the same anti-discrimination laws as a business establishment.

John McKay, attorney for California Lutheran, says the school's goal is to educate based on Christian principles.

The attorney for the girls could not be immediately reached Tuesday.

To Kathy: I respectfully disagree. Disabled people did not choose to be disabled. So-called "gays" definitely choose to live contrary to God's Word and to His design.

It is a Christian, private school. They can kick out and keep whoever they want. Obama people can't help if they are gay or not.

Good that this school is standing on what's bibically right,"sexual immorality" is a damnation sin. I agree-it is WRONG to want to have sex with the same gender!

What a great Christian School....teaching guilty until proven innocent, discrimination and conditional love....just the vaules and morals I want my children raised with....how about you. The girls should thank the school officials for getting them out of such a poor learning system.

Kathy; The article does not tell us how the whole scenario developed, so we have to assume a few things, and we all know what that means. I will ASSUME that these girls did or acted in a way that made it painfully obvious as to their sexual orientation. I will also ASSUME that the policy of the school is known by those who attend. Whether or not they can help their sexual orientation is not relevant. They can help whether anyone is aware of it. They chose to do whatever it was that called attention to their sexual orientation. Had they kept it to themselves there wouldn't be an issue. But with the courts, media coverage, and a lack of parenting, everyone tends to take the attitude that what ever the rules are in any institution or society in general...'they don't apply to me if I don't like the rules' and if anyone has anything to say about it, 'I will just sue them'. So we find ourselves reading about court battles because most judges lack JUDGMENT. It's the 'all about me' society.

Tad-I'm not a liberal. And, the last person I need a lecture from, about what defines a Christian, is you. I've read many of your comments to others on this newssite, and your name calling, intolerance and hatred to others with different views is hardly very "Christian". VBush-I understand the actions of the school. In fact, I'd be pretty upset if the court had ruled in favor of these girls. As long as this school is a private organization and doesn't receive state or federal funding, they're free to include/exclude anyone they choose. I take exception to the lawyer's comment, though, pontificating about the school's position that they educate based on Christian values. Fine, expel the gays. But if they turn their back on other "non-Christian" behavior from their students, that is a pure example of hypocrisy. And we all know how Jesus felt about hypocrites.

It is a bout time the liberal state of Californication stood up for the christian values. Being gay or a lesbian is a CHOICE not something you were born into. If god wanted man to love a man in the sexual way it would have been Adam and Steve in Exodus. If he wanted women to lay with each other it would have been Summer and Eve! Remember Sodom and Gomorrah? I will not pass judgment on people it is not my place. God will do that in the end!

Some of you seem to think to go along with the "they can't help it" when it comes to a sexual choice or preference. Well, this is a christian school, not you public socialist liberal school system. Homosexual behavior is perversion. So you are saying that it is OK to have sex with animals or "whatever" you believe? I know child molesters who cannot help it either but that is why we keep them away from our children. Think about it....

OMG, they would probably throw me out because I'm short! I think it is ridiculous to throw kids out of school for something they can no more help than a disabled person.

Christians are hypocrites. I work with people who go to church every Sunday but by the way they act and talk in seems to me the only day of the week they are CHRISTIAN is Sunday! All I'm saying is if your Christian then be Christian, just not only when it is most convenient to you.
