UPDATE: Woman Gives Birth To 8 Babies!

Doctors say octuplets born in a Southern California hospital are breathing on their own and doing "very well."

Neonatologist Mandhir Gupta tells ABC two of the eight babies delivered yesterday were initially put on ventilators, but have since had the tubes removed.

Three of the babies are getting oxygen, but Gupta says they are breathing on their own. Doctors are also encouraged that they were able to take the smallest of the infants -- a boy weighing just 1 pound, 8 ounces -- off his ventilator. Gupta this morning describes him as "very feisty."

The six boys and two girls will probably stay in the hospital for at least two months. Their mother should be released in a week.

I think some of you have this all wrong. The lady does not have a husband, does not want one. Has not had any t.v. offers. The babies are here safe and sound. The taxpayers are paying. God does not approve of children being concieved out of wedloc. This kind of thing should not be encouraged. hope that the mom and babies do well, but that she uses her head and not her reproductive organs next time!

i think this woman was brave . 2 parents dont always matter . what matters is that she loves each and everyone of her kids the best she can . she may not have a job but that doesnt mean she isnt planing to find one once all her children are home and safe. when i got married i still lived with my mom and i also had my first baby while still livin with family . family is very important . i dont think they should take the babies from her but if by some chance she doesnt think she can do and wants to give them up then that is her choice . and about some man playin god ... i think it was god that gave man the knowledge to do something of this sort. it is science and god . because if god didnt think these babies didnt need to be on this earth he wouldnt have knit them in her womb . lots of people think bad things of this woman and i just think she is very brave . i have 2 kids and love them both the same just as she most likly loves all of her kids the same . some people are born mothers .

If she was already on welfare when she had the children, the 8 will be what we call capped children. She can't receive cash for them, only food stamps. A law put into effect a few years ago. Thank goodness!

Does anyone know if their is a limit to the number of children you can have on your family health insurance plan before you have to pay extra? How much would it cost to provide health insurance and dental insurace for 14 kids? I really would like to know.

It is an abomination. Not only is this single woman having children without being in a marriage with a proper husband, but she has a man playing God. If God wanted single women to have babies he would have made them like fish-able to impregnate themselves. I will pray that everyone of these children should be adopted out to loving Christian married couples. Single women can't effectively raise children-period. And anonymous-if a marriage is to collapse or the father is no longer with us here on earth adoption should take place. You, my friend, are in need of Jesus-I will pray that you let go of your anti-God and judgemental ways. God Bless.

Perhaps we should just allow the good folks who post comments on WITN to legislate everyones reproductive rights. Are you aware that she will soon have a master's degree? With a good job and tight budgiting I see no reason why she can't support them. My grandparents had 17 children with one job and no outside support, they did just fine. But she's single-single women can't raise children right? What if she were married and was to get divorced or widowed? Then she should give the babies up right? Or maybe she should have aborted some of them right, you guys love abortion don't you. I wish my life were so perfect that I could spend more time dictating how others should live but I have my own family to tend to.

we all know who will be picking up the tab for these 8 kids, staying in the hospital for at least two months will cost a small fortune that tax payers are going to fund whether we like it or not. i am tired of paying for kids from women who have no life or education and decide to have as many kids as they can so as to collect as much state fund as possible. we desperately need to change the way we hand out to those who will not work, i am sick of seeing able bodied people shopping with food stamps that have nothing but junk in their carts, tax payers pay for this as well as their free housing plus these same people go from church to church wanting hand outs there too. i can see a helping hand in times of need but to live on hand outs and raise generations the same way is the most stupid thing and us tax payers are paying the price every day. its been proven people dont value anything that is handed to them, but when they work for what they want and need it becomes important.

How was this child brought up? She is not married and she was implanted with 8 eggs and now there are 14 children without a father. Those who think that this is ok better look into how you were raised. What else could you expect from California.
