WWE Gets The Smack Down

It looks like the raw economy has put the smackdown on World Wrestling Entertainment.

The company says it plans to count out 10 percent of its global workforce to control costs and increase earnings.

That means ECU alums Vince and Linda McMahon may have to take a pay cut.

WWE says it will take a one time restructuring charge along with the cutbacks.

William.. I agree, school is for learning, however if god presented you with the natural ability to excel in sports, I would certainly use it to my advantage. You seem like an intelligent man. I have no idea what "proletariat" means, so god may have given you the natural ability to be a smart, intelligent man. Collegiate sports, especially football and basketball, are money makers for the schools. That will never change!! My kids know the classroom comes first, no exceptions, yet I am a strong supporter of athletics, and very supportive of the both of them. That being said, to ban sports is something that will never happen, especially in the USA. We LOVE our sports too much.

willaim: who are you to say all these people have "questionable moral integrity" ? you honestly have no idea who these people are and what they do. i agree school is for learning but come on if others are capable of "extra curiculars" then let them go for it. some aren't so they should focus on school. i for one am not the biggest fan of wrestling (no i KNOW its not real) but why should they have theyre "jobs" ripped away because they make more money? i agree they may need cuts and such but that is their living and so be it. dont bash what you dont know. fyi: i AM a HUGE sports fanatic. sports is an american tradition.

Why not have their hand out like Larry Flint, asking for a government bailout?

"wwe will get the smackdown"? I would like to say that I am tired of the news media taking terms from the industry to promote a story that has a negative. Everyone would be suprised at the viewership of the wwe compared to all other sports and entertainment. By the way, the cuts will not be noticable to anyone viewing or attending events.

Man, I'm gonna get the censorship award this year. Let me word this carefully. I agree with Maddog. Let's stop all professional sports. Why pay people of questionable moral integrity tens of millions of dollars to engage in recreational games for the enjoyment of the proletariat? Let's stop college athletics too; school is for learning.
