New Year's Eve, North Carolina Style

New Year's fun will take several forms across North Carolina.

Mount Olive has the pickle drop. Brasstown has a possum drop. Raleigh drops a giant acorn.

The pickle drop features a three-foot lighted pickle replica lowered down the flagpole of Mt. Olive Pickle Co. for the 10th year.

Clay Logan said he will sponsor the 14th annual possum drop at his store in the community of Brasstown near the North Carolina-Georgia border. He said the live animal, in a cage, is gently lowered from his country store's roof.

The capital city of Raleigh will host its 18th annual downtown
celebration that concludes with the lowering of a giant acorn, the city's symbol. A downtown party in Charlotte also includes a countdown to midnight.

Geez, Did you know that possum had a O in front of it. Gah Lee Dang! I told Mama I needed a dictionary. :) For all of Ya'll people that ain't from around here these parts: most of us know that possom is oppossum and while I'm at it, coon is racoon. I don't know why we like to shorten our words here. Maybe we don't like to waste time since we usually had to work in the fields for the food we ate. That would contradict the other possiblity-laziness. Oops, I used a big word. Anyway, it's all just for fun. Happy New Year Folks!
