Inside the Illinois Capitol, not far from the Nativity scene and the atheists' display, is the handle from Michael Tennehouse's pool skimmer. It's now being used for a loftier purpose -- as a Festivus pole where believers can list their grievances and fight until someone pins the head of the household to the floor.
Festivus got a big laugh on "Seinfeld," but some aren't laughing now. The chairman of the Nativity Scene Committee says "it's a mockery." The atheists point to it as an example of what happens when the state starts creating forums for religion. Tennehouse is 18. He says he put up the pole partly because he's off from school for three weeks and got bored.
