Greenville Man Charged For Shooting A Dog That Attacked Him

Authorities in Greenville have charged a man with shooting a pit bull that attacked him during a Christmas Day argument with a friend.

Police said Friday that 40-year-old Marion Gilbert Allen refused to leave the home of a longtime friend, 31-year-old Joshua Beaver, as an argument between the two devolved into a physical altercation.

Police said Beaver then unleashed his dog, a pit bull, which attacked Allen.

Investigators said Allen ran outside but returned and shot the dog twice.

He faces several charges, including cruelty to animals.

Allen was being treated at Pitt County Memorial Hospital for bruises to the face and a cut on his arm.

Authorities did not know the condition of the dog.
