Former EMS Lieutenant Charged With Embezzlement

Missing money from an EMS squad has lead to the arrest of a former employee.

Beaufort County deputies say Michelle Cutler has been charged with embezzlement. Last month deputies received a report of fraud from Chocowinity EMS. They reported Cutler, a former lieutenant with the squad, diverted funds through paychecks and cash advances for her own personal use.

The 35-year-old Cutler, who is from Plymouth, turned herself in on Friday. She was released on a $10,000 bond.

WITN.. It is time to close this forum. As someone stated before, the damage has been done. Michelle made mistakes. I can tell you ,without reservation, I have also made MANY mistakes. We are all imperfect humans living in an imperfect world.I feel as long as this forum is active, the healing process will not begin for anyone. CEMS and CVFD will continue to provide the citizens of Chocowinity the services you deserve. The time for bashing each other must come to an end, and as long as WITN keeps this active, it is not helping. This is the holiday season, and I wish all a prosperous New Year.

Tommy, Crystal and Patrick, I support you all in the statements that you have made here and I know them to be true. I know that the 3 of you, along with many others at CEMS and CVFD, will continue to provide the best emergency services you can possibly give just as I know you did while I was a CEMS employee. Best wishes to everyone at Choco and thanks for the great work you do on that side of the river! Stay safe and keep your heads up!!

If you know me then you know its hard for me to say nothing in times such as this...I agree with the comments left by of course the anonymous "Resident and Friend" and anonymous "me". Thanks to WITN for their time but its time to close this comment forum and move on to another story like..."Chocowinity EMS Saved a Life Today" or a story about the history of Beaufort County's EMS, Fire and Police Departments. If I remember the story correctly, The hearse operated by Paul Funeral Home was the first EMS unit in Beaufort County or how Washington's fire brigade (volunteers) rang bells to alert volunteers and passed buckets from the ice covered river to put out multiple house fires or how one of Beaufort County's first officer was shot while apprehending a murder suspect along the old railroad tracks in Edward. He later died. There are so many wonderful and heroic people in Beaufort County. Merry Christmas and may God Bless all of you.

Sandy, I'm not sure why they will not post your comment but its not because your family. Hopefully this will be my last comment about this incident. I will be the first to say that there is always two sides to every story. The facts have not been made public but a warrant was issued and served. Does that make her guilty? No. That's why I said in my very first comment, let the judicial system handle this incident. I do not agree with the PERSONAL attacks that were made against CEMS staff or Michelle. Too many people worked hard to build CEMS and this will soon be a thing of the past for everyone involved.

Everyone makes mistakes, EVERYONE! Maybe all thse negative people need to stop pointing their fingers at others and point into a mirror! The proper measures will be taken for this former EMT, and as for the ones that are still their working to save our lives, we should be Thankful for them, and GOD Bless you all! It's mighty funny how people that are not even involved in this in any manner have something to say about the current workers at the station, things were handled in a professional manner and still are. Hope none you should need help and have to look into the eyes of the honest EMT that you are bashing... think about it....

Dissappointed.. CVFD and CEMS must work together as a team. The fire dept. are dedicated professionals, but so are CEMS. People, such as yourself, no nothing about what we do. All you are doing is "stirring the pot". You seem, in my opinion, to label all of CEMS employees and volunteers. I bet if you call for EMS assistance, you probably would not think so bad about us. Understand this, CVFD and CEMS will get it together, and one day will be a cohesive unit. In other words, get over yourself, and be part of the solution, instead of the problem. I really wish WITN would close this forum, as the damage has been done, and Ms. Cutler has been charged. Michelle, you made a mistake that will have long lasting effects, however if I had a penny for all mistakes I have made, I can guarantee I would not be posting. I would be on my own personal yacht, drinking fruity drinks. WITN... PLEASE close this forum.

I hope this does not reflect on the GREAT Chocowinity Fire Department, maybe they need to lead the EMS also. This is very disappointing, and i think the accused family members who left comments on this issue needs to know how to spell.
