Deer Fights Back And Attacks Hunter

SEDALIA, Mo. (AP) -- A hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain. Randy Goodman, 49, said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life.

The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell." The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.

Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood.

So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises.

I am a hunter and I too believe deer are a beautiful example of God's creation. Many non-hunters don't realize that hunters are some of the best wildlife conservationists out there. When I was a kid, I never saw wild turkeys in Eastern NC, but thans to the restoration efforts of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission there is now a healthy population of wild turkeys in Eastern NC for the hunting and non-hunting population to enjoy. We don't all have to agree on how we go about enjoying God's creatures, but we do need to respect each others' freedoms. Thanks for reading and God bless!

Great comment Kathy from Goldsboro. Flag the Deer you and your family can live on my land, and you will be safe. I have a nice home with 5 acres of property. Deer come on to my land all the time. I like to feed them Apples. I almost had one to eat out of my hand. I also take pictures of them, and send the to family who live in the cities up North. They frame them and put them on there walls, and they make copies and give them to there friends. You know if you take a picture of a deer dusk their eyes picture Blue. I just can not see how you could kill one they are so beautiful.

I know the hunter killed the deer in the end ,but the deer at least got some revenge! I don't like hunting for sport. I'm not one of those who think you shouldn't eat meat, but to hunt just so you can put something on your wall is just wrong! I just don't understand why people enjoy killing for pleasure! I guess I love animals and I have deer on my land and you will not hunt there. If you shoot and kill one of the deer there you will Not get it!

Hi New Car 12/6/2008 at 12:37AM. I would not be scared about the Deer Flag. You humans in cars seem to run into each other everyday. Just simply read the Accident reports WITN posts every week. I would not be scared of Deer Flag. Watch out for the other driver on a cell phone.

Hello, I'm new car. My owner uses me to go back and forth to go to work. My owner has a family and bills and must support us all. I also carry around the little humans to school and games. I scared for my human owners every time a deer runs out in front of me. I can't control myself so I must rely on the reflexes of my owner. Well Mr. Hunter, please shoot those deer so my owner will be safe. A model just like me hit a deer and now is scrap metal and used for millions of paper clips. That owner's knees are messed up and need surgery but he has no insurance. He can't live off disability so he works with bad knees that have messed up the disk in his back. I don't drive in the woods and run deer down Mr.Hunter, so could you please stop them from coming on the street running in front of me. Please hit the deer FLAG first. Thank You, New Car

I bet WITN loves these kinds of stories. They know people will come up here to argue about theses stories, which drives the hit count up resulting in more revenue for advertising. Genius. Especially when this isnt local news.

Well its open season on Flag! Survival of the fittest. I just as well see them on the diner table than on the side of the road. If you haven't noticed how many dead deer are along the side of the road, you must have voted for Obama. You are not paying attention.

Bridget: Hunting is a traditional leisure activity. Going to the grocery store is not. We know how much food costs.
