Man Tased At Dad's Funeral: Deputies Disciplined

Five members of the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office will be disciplined after undercover agents converged on a funeral and tried to arrest the dead man's son -- and used a Taser on him in the process.

The Star-News of Wilmington reported that Sheriff Sid Causey said one of the five facing action is Chief Deputy Ed McMahon, who was in charge of arresting Gladwyn Taft Russ III when the 42-year-old man attended his father's funeral on Saturday.

Causey also said two lieutenants and the two undercover deputies who arrested Russ will be disciplined, but the sheriff would not describe what action would be taken.

The incident happened as the coffin was being loaded into a hearse. Officers planned to quietly arrest Russ, who was serving as a pallbearer.
