She was honored in 2011 with two awards: Collaboration in Teaching Award, given by Microsoft and Southside High School Teacher of the Year.
Prior to teaching at Southside High School, Ms. Clark was the Office Systems Technology Curriculum Coordinator at Pitt Community College. She returned to teaching high school after the deaths of her husband and her mother, so that she could be in the same county and be on the same school schedule as her son. Her son is now 14 and enrolled in the Beaufort County Early College High School. In addition to her son, Kathy has three grown stepchildren.
Throughout her 24-year career, Ms. Clark has had the opportunity to work with many wonderful people. She has also taught at the following schools: North Edgecombe H.S. (1989-90), South Edgecombe H.S. (1990-92), Northside H.S. (1992-94), and Beaufort Community College (1994-2003).
Kathy writes: I have always wanted to be a teacher. I had an amazing high school business teacher, Mrs. Judy McRoy, who encouraged me and many others to follow in her footsteps. I feel very fortunate to have been able to do just that. I love teaching teenagers. I am a graduate of Chocowinity High School. One of the nicest things about teaching at Southside is that I am able to teach the children of my friends and family. Many of the students in my classes I know on a personal level before they ever enter my classroom.
