The Teacher of the Week for january 30, 2013 is Gina Resendez. She teaches second grade at Creswell Elementary School in Washington County. This is her sixth year teaching with Washington County Schools.
Gina moved to Eastern Carolina in 2007 from Fremont, Ohio after graduating from Ashland University. She is certified to teach PreK and Elementary Education grades K-6.
She has spent the majority of her teaching career in Kindergarten, but she loves second grade this year. She says she is privileged to have some students this year that she taught back in Kindergarten.
Gina writes: “Teaching is such a challenging yet rewarding experience. I hope the day never comes that my students groan about doing class work! I love digging into learning with hands-on activities, students leading others, and getting messy all for that 'ah-ha' moment the students give when they truly understand. My heart is in teaching, and I want students to have a love for learning.”
The person who nominated Gina wrote: “She has consistently been a kind, creative and sincere educator. I am continually impressed by her openness and approachability. She maintained a positive relationship with parents and fostered a strong school-to-home connection. Her relationship with the children she teaches is natural and instinctive. Mrs. Resendez has a gift for fostering a love of learning which is obvious when you walk into her classroom.”
