TEACHER OF THE WEEK: Eric Godwin

Eric Godwin is starting his third year teaching at Columbia High School in Tyrrell County.

Godwin is from Dunn, where he graduated from Midway High School. He then graduated with his Bachelors of Science in Agriscience from Mount Olive College in 2011. He is currently on track to complete his Masters of Science degree in agricultural education from North Carolina A&T State University in May of 2014.

Godwin writes: “What I love the most about teaching is when I see the light bulbs come on in my students, when I know they understand a certain concept or objective that I teach and they can execute it in the shop or greenhouse. This feeling is very rewarding and I truly feel like my goal as an educator is being fulfilled. I have known that I wanted to be an agriculture teacher since I attended my very first National FFA Convention in 2006. I hope to provide the same great opportunities for my students that my agriculture teacher, Mr. Scott Jolly, provided for me.”

The person who nominated Godwin wrote: “Mr. Godwin is a very enthusiastic teacher and wonderful with the students and getting them involved with FFA. He offers many activities for the students at CHS…. He also is a great mentor to many of the students in his classroom and outside of it. As you can see, Mr. Godwin is very dedicated to each and every student at Columbia High School.”
