Two Girls Struck By Cars In Outer Banks

A teenage girl remains hospitalized after she and another were hit by cars crossing a busy highway on the Outer Banks, according to the Virginian Pilot.

Police in Kitty Hawk say a 16-year-old girl is in the hospital in Norfolk, though she is expected to survive. The Virginian Pilot reports the teen was hit by a car crossing the Croatan Highway at Juniper Trail in Kitty Hawk around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Another 16-year-old girl was hit by another vehicle, but she is out of the hospital. The newspaper reports the girls ran across the highway while traffic had the green light. Police say the girls were vacationing in Kitty Hawk from Massachusetts.

The drivers have not been cited.

This accident comes just one month after ECU Admissions Assistant Director, Chris Murphy was hit and killed along the same stretch of highway in nearby Nags Head. Murphy was 37 years old.
