Two Crashes In The Same Intersection On Wednesday

We are gathering information on back-to-back car crashes at the same intersection.

The intersection of East Vernon Avenue and North McLewean Street in Kinston is where two crashes happened within ten minutes of each other Wednesday morning, according to the Kinston Free Press.

The paper said 69-year-old Helen Brinkley of Grifton was cited for running a red light and crashing into a Kia driven by 62-year-old Cirzell Benjamin of New York. The woman and her 20-year-old passenger were taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital, according to the Free Press.

Minutes later, Kinston Police Sergeant Craig Jarman and Julia Quinn collided in the same intersection. The paper said Quinn believes she had the green light. There is no word on charges in the crash involving the officer.
